Hamilton City Council has today voted to adopt a draft agreement which outlines how a water and wastewater council-controlled organisation for Hamilton City Council, Wakato District Council and Waipa District Council might be structured, should it go ahead.
Both Waikato and Waipa District Councils had already agreed to the draft agreement, noting final decisions cannot be made until the public has been consulted.
The Record of Agreement was negotiated by a nine-person Waters Governance Group, comprising three councillors from each of the three councils. Hamilton City, along with Waikato District and Waipa District Councils had already agreed in principle to form a council-owned CCO, subject to community consultation.
The CCO would manage water and wastewater infrastructure on behalf of the three councils as well as manage stormwater services under contract.
